App data privacy

The short version first.

A clear account of what stays in your garden and what a Garden Walk needs to do its work.

Plain language

Your garden is yours.

Sow is built around a journal that lives with you. Your garden memories are not an advertising product and they are not a product-research feed.

A Garden Walk needs a small, limited service layer to authenticate the app, process what you ask it to process, and keep the service reliable. This page separates that from your garden itself.

01

Your journal stays with you.

Garden memories, photos, annotations, and recordings live on your device. If you choose iCloud sync, they may also live in your private iCloud account. Sow's service records do not contain your garden entries, photographs, or annotations.

02

A Garden Walk is processed, not published.

When you save a walk, its audio is sent through Sow's service to OpenAI for transcription. The transcript is sent to OpenAI to organize it into a garden memory. The result comes back to your journal, where you can edit or delete it.

03

We keep limited service records.

To protect the service and manage Garden Walk use, Sow's API keeps pseudonymous service identifiers derived from the Apple Sign in subject and App Attest key identifier. They let the service recognize a protected account or installation for security, access, and usage limits, but do not contain your Apple email or name, device name, journal words, photographs, recordings, or location. The API also keeps limited technical records such as a request outcome, recording length, byte size, and time.

04

Product reporting is aggregate.

Sow combines limited service events into daily totals so we can understand how the app is being used and whether it is working reliably. Our internal reports show aggregate counts and duration ranges, not a person's garden, entries, recordings, Apple identity, device identifier, or location.

05

Your choices stay yours.

Camera, photo library, microphone, and location access are used only when you choose a feature that needs them. You can change device permissions, audio-retention choices, and iCloud settings at any time.

06

No ads. No sale of garden data.

Sow does not sell personal information or use garden content to build advertising profiles. We do not run third-party behavioural advertising in the app.

OpenAI API data controls

Data sent to the OpenAI API is not used to train or improve OpenAI models unless you explicitly opt in.

The formal version

For the App Store, a more detailed question, or a quiet afternoon. This is the formal policy for the Sow app.
